The Domesday Survey conducted in 1086 provides an insight into the early history of the area, referencing Upton and a wood valued at £15, which could support 200 pigs. Upton acquired its name from its position at the top of a slope leading from the river terrace, created during the Ice Age. The ancient parish, and the civil parish until 1894, encompassed Chalvey and Slough, which were originally hamlets, and was officially recognized as Upton-cum-Chalvey. The parish was restructured in 1894, with the creation of a new civil parish for Slough. A portion of the parish was transferred to Gerrards Cross in 1895, while the remainder was split between neighbouring parishes of Eton, Langley Marish, Slough, and Wexham in 1900 and 1901.[1] The ecclesiastical parish is still referred to as Upton-cum-Chalvey.
