Upton and Chalvey, which were two nearby settlements. This area was located near the “Crown Crossroads,” which was the intersection where the road to Windsor (now the A332) met the Great West Road.
The Domesday Survey of 1086, which was a survey of England and Wales ordered by King William the Conqueror, refers to Upton and mentions a wood that could support 200 pigs and was worth £15. This suggests that the area was already inhabited and had some economic importance at the time.
