Fifield is a village and civil parish located in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in Berkshire, England. It is situated about 2.5 miles west of Windsor town centre and approximately 20 miles west of central London. The village is surrounded by green belt land and is close to the River Thames.
The name “Fifield” is believed to be derived from the Old English words “Fyfelde” or “Fifhyde”, meaning “open country of five hides”. In the Domesday Book, it was recorded as “Fifehide”.
The village has a number of notable buildings, including St John the Baptist Church, which dates back to the 12th century and has a Norman doorway. The church has been extensively restored and modified over the centuries. Other historic buildings in the village include Fifield Manor, a 16th-century timber-framed house, and Fifield House, a 17th-century mansion. Fifield is surrounded by farmland and woodland, and is a popular location for walkers and cyclists. The village has a village hall and a pub, The Fifield Inn. It also has a primary school, which serves the local community and surrounding areas.
