The name Dedworth is derived from the combination of ‘Dydda’, a man’s name, and ‘Worth’, a Saxon word for enclosure. There are two manors associated with Dedworth – Dedworth
Maunsell and Dedworth Loring. It is believed that the moat located in Wolf Lane may be the only remnant of the manor house of Dedworth Maunsell. Dedworth Loring was owned by the De Loring family from the early 13th century, and it is thought that it may have been situated to the north, where a large medieval hearth has been discovered in Knight’s Close.
Dedworth is one of three Saxon villages, along with Clewer and Losfield, that Windsor expanded to incorporate. It is older than Windsor and is referenced in the Domesday Book under the name Dideorde. Today, Dedworth is a thriving residential area on the outskirts of Windsor, offering a variety of amenities including shops, schools, and recreational facilities.
